There are a few places you can search patents, but the easiest place is Google Patent Search.  Google's database should include all patents.  But, you can also go direct to the source, the USPTO; this page includes a guide to how to search for patents, if you're interested, but I bet you'll be just fine using the easier Google search.

I did a search using the Google Patent Search and I got a lot of results when I searched for "S-Glass fishing rods", but I'm not sure I found the exact patent (they're kind of technical), so I would definitely give that a try and take a look at the results.  I did a search for Clarence Shoff and found one patent:  The patent is for a method of making a fish bait and the product thereof.
