Hello,

Thank you for your question. The short answer is that we cannot do this. The library collection is open to users of all ages and the library does not restrict access. Our community consists of people with diverse values, tastes, and approaches to child rearing, and we attempt to provide a collection that reflects a wide spectrum. Not all materials are appropriate for all users and we understand that can be challenging at times, especially for parents.

Some parents with strong feelings on this topic may accompany their children to the library, although we realize that is not always realistic in the case of a teenager. The child’s account may also be accessed online by parents to monitor what is checked out if the parent knows the card number and PIN (which, by default is the last four digits of the card number).

We encourage parents to communicate their values and expectations regarding checkout of particular materials to their children. Ultimately, such communication will be the best weapon parents have in helping their children make good choices as consumers of media.

Thanks again for your question.
