Hello,

The company that provides our Library2Go service, OverDrive, has an explanation of that on their website/in the help forums accessible from the Library2Go website: http://help.overdrive.com/customer/portal/articles/1626175-how-automatic-borrowing-works-for-titles-you-have-on-hold-.

Auto-checkout is a new feature they added that automatically checks a hold out to you when it becomes available.  You receive an email when an item is auto-checked out to you.  It eliminates the 72 hour period you have to claim your hold and rather just claims the hold for you right away.  It is an effort to prevent holds from timing out/disappearing for those that may not be able to or do not want to worry about claiming the hold within the 72 hour period.

I hope this information is helpful.  Please do not hesitate to get in touch if we may be of further assistance with this or anything else.

Thanks,

Bonnie/Reference Librarian
